  • Plant tea is used to stop hemorrhages of the stomach, bowels, bladder, kidneys, and nose, along with for fevers, bronchitis, tumors, piles, and coughs(Peterson Field Guide)


Wild Quinine

  • Parthenium integrifolium
  • Found in prairie's, rock outcrops, & roadsides
  • Active chemical ingredient is quinine
    • Quinine: a white, bitter, slightly water-soluble alkaloid, C 2 0 H 2 4 N 2 O 2,having needlelike crystals, obtained from cinchona bark: used in medicine chiefly in the treatment of resistant forms of malaria.
  • Use poultice with fresh leaves on burns. Flowering tops used for "intermittent fevers"(like malaria). Roots used as diuretic for kidney and bladder ailments, gonorrhea.(Peterson Field Guide)
