Useful links

First three are Khan Academy(why yes I am a nerd) and I have found this site is extremely helpful

Empirical formula from mass composition
Empirical, molecular, and structural formulas
Molecular weight percentages

This next one I found online...obviously, but it's kind've a rundown of chem in general with a lot of chemical composition that is helpful

Good luck.

Test Prep

Guys it pretty late right now and reading some stuff in a group chat is causing me to get out of my extremely comfortable bed, most likely wake up the sleeping ones in my house, and print out a study guide because I won't have time in the morning. Oh the things we do for chem... guys I really need my sleep..I do not thrive well off of little sleep, and I sleep alot. So this is not well. I hope you all get more sleep than I, and that we do well on the chem test.

Hydrate Lab

We were cool and got to use a small fan .
The first lab that we have done this week was the hydrate lab. It was about using the anhydrous compound formula to determine the formula for the hydrate. The lab involved taking Copper Sulfate and driving the water out of it. then using the data from measuring the mass of the substance before and after the heating to determine the amount of water in the initial mass. I enjoyed the lab and found that it helped me establish a higher understanding of the equations we are focusing on lately.
Using Bunsen burners as flame throwers is always a joyous occasion

Preparing for Lab

As the Pre lab quiz approaches I am implementing a strategy that has always helped in memorizing math... Doing the type of problems we know will be on the quiz over and over again. The half sheet we received and the pre lab questions will be my gateway to the lab. Hopefully I actually succeed unlike the aspirin lab. We will see my fellow chem people. I wish god focus on us all.

The Mole and Other Neat Adventures

Our latest lectures have been talking about the mole, molar mass, and hydrated compounds. All involve more math than we have normally done and (as Mrs. Frankenberg warned) combines all that we have learned so far in our class. Going all the way back to nomenclature from our first unit. Personally I like what we are doing. The straightforwardness of the math and equations is comforting. Also, the practical use of sig figs is helping me to fully understand the uses of the outlandish rounding system. I like the road map(and because the internet is really well I found a picture of the road map online and will share it with you)  and how easy it is to remember. My system for memorizing which unit goes on the bottom or top is when you are traveling away from the mole you numbers like molar mass, or 6.02x10^23 goes on top, and when you are going towards the mole those go on the bottom. Hope this helps. Have a blessed weekend and enjoy our days away from our large building.

Pre-Test

Welp. I wonder what we are getting ourselves into this time. It was a very confusing pretest with questions that looked like they could be familiar. I am very sure I did very bad on it, because I didn't even try. I use a lot of brain power in my classes and i knew that i had two tests that day so I did not even try. I hope that I understand the subject matter before the next test because this chapter seems like it will be a new challenge. Have a wonderful wednesday.
